Session to give computer users advice on how to defend against the latest threats

IT security and control firm Sophos has organised a free seminar at its UK headquarters in Abingdon where security experts James Lyne and Chris Pace will talk about the lifecycle of attacks and give practical advice on threat protection strategies.

The seminar Anatomy of an Attack: How hackers threaten your security will be held at Sophos's headquarters in Abingdon on Wednesday 3 June 2009 from 10:00 to 13:30 and is open for registration until 2 June 2009.

The seminar will be split into three sessions: discussing how hackers threaten corporate networks, a live demonstration of a malware attack and practical steps that IT administrators can take to secure business networks.

"The highlight of the session will no doubt be the live malware attack in action - of course it will be self-contained so nothing to worry about there! Few people actually gain insight in to how attacks occur, stuck in the continual position of after the fact remediation," said James Lyne, senior technologist at Sophos. "This session is designed to show how chains of attacks link together both from the perspective of the hacker and the end user, showing in gory detail the true capabilities of modern malware."

"This seminar is open to anyone who wants to educate themselves, and their users, on how to secure their business with limited budget and resource," continued Lyne. "A useful tool in today’s economic climate."
