Sophos announced today that it is a sponsor of the SecureWorld Spotlight Conference and will be exhibiting (booth 15) on Thursday, August 20, 2009 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm ET at Bentley University’s LaCava in Waltham, Massachusetts. The conference will focus on the new regulation - 201 CMR 17.00: Standards for The Protection of Personal Information of Residents of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts - and the rationale as to why this regulation was created and what it is designed to accomplish. Earlier this week, the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation announced that there would be further modifications to Massachusetts’ identity theft regulations that maintains the protection and reinforces flexibility in compliance by small businesses, which is expected to go into effect on March 1, 2010. As small businesses often do not house a significant amount of confidential customer data, the revised regulations will take into account the size of a business and the quantity of personal information that it touched and/or stored when it comes to a company’s data security plan. To help customers and prospects better understand industry, state and federal data compliance and regulations, Sophos launched its Compliance and Regulation Portal in March 2009, providing U.S. companies with the latest news and information on state and federal data protection mandates and related compliance issues. The site contains a state-by-state listing of all data security regulations, details on federal data protection legislation, current compliance news from top media outlets and best practices for developing a robust security strategy drawn from Sophos’s work with customers across the vertical spectrum. |
