| Sophos appoints Edwin Gillis to board of directors | |

IT security and data protection firm Sophos today announced that Ed Gillis has been appointed to its board of directors as a non-executive member. Gillis brings to Sophos four decades of experience in financial, administrative and general management positions within the computer systems and software industry. "Ed’s breadth of expertise and experience will be instrumental in helping the company capitalize on its strategic market opportunities and prospects for continued growth,” said Steve Munford, CEO of Sophos. "We are very pleased with his acceptance of the appointment and feel that his skills and background are a great complement to that of our current board." Gillis has been instrumental in the management and integration of several major industry acquisitions. Most recently, TPG and Silver Lake Partners tapped Gillis to become interim Chief Financial Officer at Avaya Inc. during their acquisition of the global business communications leader. Gillis was also senior vice president of administration and integration at Symantec Corporation during Symantec’s merger with VERITAS Software at which time he was responsible for managing the integration management office. Gillis has also been director and chairman of the audit committees of BladeLogic (NASDAQ) and EqualLogic Inc. during their acquisitions by BMC Inc. and Dell, respectively. Gillis has held executive vice president and chief financial officer positions at VERITAS Software, Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC) and Lotus Development Corporation. Gillis earned a bachelor's degree in government from Clark University, a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Southern California, and a master’s in business administration from Harvard Business School. He is currently a member of the board of directors and chairman of the audit committees of Teradyne Corporation (NYSE), LogMeIn (NASDAQ) and Endeca Technologies Inc. |
