– Global IT security and data protection company Sophos announced that Director of Technology Strategy James Lyne is scheduled to present the keynote address at EastWest Institute's International Youth and Technology Forum on Digital Citizenship held today at Columbia University in New York City, NY. Alongside cybersecurity experts, government representatives, academics, and the Girl Scouts of America, Lyne will explore how to keep children and teenagers safe in today's digital world.

Keynote Summary: The perfect storm of modern technology is upon us now. As we look ahead to the next 5 years of change, this presentation will showcase how this change represents a significant opportunity to apply lessons learned, or in some cases, dig a deeper hole. This presentation will discuss who the attackers are and how cybercriminals have changed the game. It will provide tips and tricks of the illicit malicious economy. In addition, Lyne will detail how the existing industry approach is misguided and what we need to be doing to fight back.

For most kids and teenagers today, the internet, computers, smartphones, tablets, and other devices have been a part of their lives from the start. These technologies offer great advantages for learning and communication; however, they also bring challenges, dangers, and concern amongst parents, academic, and government leaders alike. Having the power to communicate instantaneously and obtaining information from the internet in seconds has opened the door to privacy issues, misuse by cybercriminals, predators, and others. On top of all this, more and more kids and teenagers themselves are getting caught in the cobwebs of the web and smartphones.
